Make It A Ritual
Basic Ritual
Free your hair from the damaging, drying cycle of constant sudsing and instead, work in a weekly or bi-weekly brush session to stimlulate your scalp and move natural oil mechanically without stripping the hair of its natural protection and radiance.
Basic Ritual:
Before showering/bathing, take 5 minutes to lovingly brush out that gorgeous head of hair from all directions. If your hair is short or you are bald, no problem! brush your scalp.
Breathe deeply, knowing you are releasing energetic and physical dead weight with every stroke, freeing yourself one hair at a time.
Feel the sensation of the bristles, knowing that it is the flow of blood returning vital nutrients to your scalp, encouraging clarity, relaxation and hair growth.
Follow with a good rinse with warm water in the shower. No suds needed.
Add Some Mane Magic
Imagine what you are letting go of, moving stagnant energy through your crown and out into your brush.
What are you ready to release in life? What do you want to make room for? New growth can occur on your head, and also in your life at large.
You write your own ritual story. Do this at least twice a month, Full/ New Moon for extra potency and growth.
Deepen the Ritual
When you are ready to take this practice deeper: A hairbrushing ritual is a great way to aid us in our work of brushing out what no longer serves us, be it a client, a relationship, a feeling, a habit, you name it. We can brush those things right out of our hair, with the power of our own clear intention.
For this ritual, all you need is a comfortable place to sit, a candle and a hairbrush.
Find a comfortable place to sit and light a candle. Think about the details of your day, your week, your year.
What feels like it no longer suits you? Is it the way you talk to yourself when you have made a mistake? Is it the pace of your life? Is it how you react in conflict without first taking a step back and a deep breath?
Notice the things that come up in your awareness as you call forth what is to be released. I
f it helps and you are a list person, write down these things that you are ready to release as they emerge. No pressure to hold everything in your mind at once, just let things come to your attention, be acknowledged, and then fall away.
Once you feel done taking inventory of your release, allow your mind to soften and clear and return to your breath, setting an intention to simply let go of dead weight as you make space for free movement.
Begin to brush your hair, detangling the ends first, and slowly working your way up towards your scalp. Brush slowly, in a way that feels really good. No rush. Just imagine, as you are brushing that everything weighing heavy on you is being brushed out of your hair.
Notice circulation returning to the scalp, making for a fertile and nourished environment for new growth.
Keep going until you feel all clear, picturing that only the purest and most aligned intelligence and wisdom can permeate you and your divine crown.
Once you feel done, remove your fallen hairs from your brush. Hold them in your hand. Take a breath. Understand them to be all that has been released. Decide what you want to do with them. My favorite thing to do is burn them. Take them outside, and take a match to them, and burn them into nothing. Goodbye. Or you can offer them to the plants, to water, or to the breeze.
Please notice what arises in you during and after performing this ritual. Take note! What were 2 takeaways? Write them in your journal. There are no wrong answers.
